10 Km LIA Charity Walk and Fun Run!

By Rey & Tootsie Domingo, LIA Coordinators, NSW North Cluster

More than 60 members, family and friends turned up on a beautiful sunny, yet cold and windy King’s Birthday Holiday morning to support the Love in Action (LIA) Charity Walk and Fun Run at Rofe Park, Hornsby.

LIA North Cluster organized the event for the benefit of the Kabihug Manide community of the Katutubo Elementary School in Paracale, Camarines Norte in the Philippines.

Members, including Youth and Kids, walked or ran 14 laps around the 717-metre walking trail around Rofe Park Oval.

This is in unity with the Katutubo students who walk up to 10km a day to attend their classes. The most senior participant was 71 years young (guess who), while the youngest was a seven-year-old.

We were inspired by this fundraising walk as an offer of love towards the Kabihug Manide people.  We are truly grateful for the support of our friends, family and generous donors.   For one, such as sis Novy McWhriter (HOLD HH), who came to serve, to support and to show their care for those who are in need.

As in 1 John 3:18, the apostle wrote, "Little children, let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action." How can one just sit idly when these little children are walking 10 km for a basic education?  Then just imagine the amazing things they could accomplish if given the same opportunities that we now take for granted.

We had so much fun that many participants suggested we do it again next year!

The LIA raised over $1500 during the actual walk and over $4000 through the GoFundMe initiative.

There is still time to donate.  A fundraising site has been set up via GoFundMe with either Credit Card or Paypal accepted.  Please search for “Buy a school bus to get students into class!” or click on this link https://www.gofundme.com/f/buy-a-school-bus-to-get-the-students-into-class?qid=1d3b97e61a741ed3df6bd91a1261a716 to donate.

Donations of $2 or more are tax-deductible.
