During the Sector Gathering last 14 March, The Kids for Christ Australia (KFCA) held a special Lenten Activity featuring a teaching on the 14 Stations of the Cross led by our YFCA Ate Angeline Gonzaga.
The event was organized by the KFCA coordinators for children and families to enjoy a day full of activities, learning, and reflection on what Jesus went through before He died for our sins.
After the teaching, the we went outside and walked around the track while participating in different activities related to each station, making the experience more real and meaningful, along with moments of fun, including enjoying chocolate eggs.
To start the event, we were split into two groups based on height and took part in a fun icebreaker, a relay race using a cross-shaped baton made of sticks. Each team had to go around a cone while carrying the cross, making it an exciting activity that helped everyone get to know each other and work as a team. The winning team even received Warhead jellybeans, HOORAY! The event wasn’t just all about games.
We then gathered for the teaching led by our YFCA speaker Ate Angeline Gonzaga, where we learned about the 14 Stations of the Cross. Fourteen volunteers were each given a sheet showing a station, such as “Jesus carries the cross,” along with a picture. As we went through each station, the volunteers held up their sheets while Ate Angeline explained what was happening, helping everyone understand the story clearly.
After each explanation, we took part in short activities connected to the stations. Some were physical, like holding a deep squat for as long as we could to experience how difficult it must have been for Jesus to carry the cross, this teaches us that even when things get hard, we should never give up. Other activities involved speaking, like saying kind and respectful words to one another, which reminded us how we should treat others. There were also quiet moments where we reflected deeply. These activities helped us understand not just what happened, but also how Jesus felt, making the experience more powerful and memorable.
After the teaching, we were asked to create a cross using different art materials. Five crosses were chosen, and the kidswho made them were asked to share what their creations signified, allowing them to express their understanding of the lesson in a personal and creative way.
At the end of the session, the we took part in a very fun Easter egg hunt where Cadbury chocolate eggs were hidden all around the area. Some eggs contained chocolate treats, while others had small prizes inside. The goal was to collect as many eggs as possible while having fun exploring. Everyone spread out and excitedly searched behind trees, under benches, and in hidden corners for colourful eggs. Some were easy to find, while others were tricky and required us to look more carefully. There was lots of laughter, running, and teamwork as we helped each other find the eggs, and at the end, we got to enjoy eating them after the hunt finished. It was a joyful way to end the day after learning something meaningful, reminding us that even after sacrifice and sadness, there is also joy and celebration. The day ended peacefully with a closing prayer led by Tita Mariz Dizon.
Overall, the day was very fun and meaningful to be part of. The starting activity was a great icebreaker, and the Easter egg hunt was intense but enjoyable as everyone tried to collect as many eggs as possible. More importantly, we learned about the 14 Stations of the Cross and the sacrifices Jesus made for us. The teaching was a wonderful experience that reminded us to be thankful and to show kindness and love to others, just like Jesus. The Lenten Activity allowed everyone to learn important values while also having fun together.
“Thank You, Jesus, for Your love and sacrifice."
