How the YFCA SA Camp Strengthened One Teen’s Faith

The YFCA Entry Camp held at St. Augustine Parish Hall in South Australia on the weekend of October 4–5 was filled with faith, joy, and fellowship. Among the participants was Evanna, who shared a deeply moving experience of how the camp helped her grow in her love for Christ and connect with others who share her faith.

After the camp, Evanna’s mother sent a touching message to Sarah, one of the camp leaders, expressing their gratitude and joy. Here’s what she shared:

Dear Sarah,

Hope you had a well-deserved rest last night!

I can not tell you enough how excited Evanna had been! She hasn't stopped talking about the camp till now. Her joy is so palpable! I would like to share a few things she said...

She said,

"Ma, I LOVED it! I feel more comfortable with them than in school or any other community because they all love God, they're in love with Christ, they pray together, and they're not shy about it! They have so much fun and so much joy without saying bad words or excluding others. The speakers were amazing! I learned a lot! The food was restaurant-quality. I've learned that when you're with people who love Christ, the joy, safety, and happiness you feel around them is like nothing else. One thing I wish was different is that we had Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. God willing, and if you allow it, I'd love to go again!"

I cannot begin to thank you enough, Sarah. I've been praying to Mother Mary, to St Carlo Acutis, for my shy, quiet, and rather sensitive Evanna that God would give her at least one friend with whom she would feel safe and accepted for her strong faith, where she could continue to grow confidently with joy and grace in Christ. Thank you for providing her with the opportunity to see what Christ's transformative love looks like!

Thank you so much!

Have a blessed day!

Evanna’s parents are also participants in the Christian Life Program (CLP) in the West. This beautiful testimony is a reminder of how our community’s mission continues to touch lives—helping families and youth encounter Christ in a personal and joyful way.

As we reflect on Evanna’s story, let us be encouraged to keep inviting others to join our community, so that together we may continue to bring people closer to Christ and inspire them to live out their faith with love, joy, and courage.
