The NSW HOLD Conference, held on May 24-25 at St. Johns Park, NSW, focused on spiritual renewal under the theme "CALLED TO A NEW LIFE IN CHRIST." Delegates from Newcastle, Wollongong, and other mission areas attended.

The conference began in complete darkness and silence. At the front of the hall stood an image of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a tall wooden cross, and an overhead screen. Soft music played ("Where There is Love") as a video depicting the struggles of the world (war, suffering) was shown. Handmaids slowly decorated the cross with white flowers, draped it in a white cloth, and placed six lit candles—representing the Australian states—at its base.
Next, a video of God’s mercy, highlighting peace, love, and hope, played with a voiceover on hope and God lifting us from despair. As "One Little Candle" played, attendees silently lit their own candles, gradually illuminating the hall before the lights were turned on.
This powerful, contemplative scene set the tone for the conference.
Bro Ronnie Masocol opened the conference with inspiring words, followed by powerful Praise and Worship led by Sis Jo Bonto. A video showcasing the moral decline of society introduced the first talk, "Reading The Signs of the Times" by Sis Aster Aguirre. The talk encouraged us to reflect, discern world events, and interpret them in light of the Gospel, responding according to God’s will.
A video of the "Prodigal Son" and the song "He Ran to Me" preceded the second talk by Sis Reinia Silvino, which focused on responding to God’s call for universal reconciliation.
The afternoon session began with Praise and Worship by Sis Bing Money, followed by a dance performance to "What A Wonderful World" by the Fairtown sisters, which set the stage for the third talk, "Called to a New Life in Christ" by Sis Bambi Masocol. The talk encouraged us to discern the true paths for Catholics living in today’s world, based on Jesus’ teachings. Delegates then wrote their personal action plans and goals for a new life in Christ on cut-out leaves, which were pasted on drawn trees.
A Praise Fest by Sis Rubie Herrera marked the conclusion of the day’s sessions.
The evening's Social Night was a "white night," with Handmaids dressed in white and wearing simple floral headwear. After dinner, there were dance performances from the sisters of Blacktown, Fairtown, and Newcastle, along with a professional dance performance by Shaydine Nolan, daughter of Sis Gemma Nolan. The night was filled with dancing, laughter, camaraderie, and endless picture-taking, making for a joyful and memorable evening.
The second day of the conference began with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, officiated by Fr. Jun Perez, SVD, and assisted by Deacon Willy Limjap. The final talk, "Pilgrims of Hope," was delivered by Sis Grace Jacinto. In alignment with CFCA’s mission and vision—"Families in the Holy Spirit renewing the face of the earth"—Sis Grace called us to join the Universal Church in celebrating the Jubilee Year 2025 as "Pilgrims of Hope." At the conclusion of her talk, the NSW HOLD Conference was officially closed.
The event was meticulously planned and smoothly executed, thanks to the seamless flow of activities over the two days. The presence of CFCA elders added a special touch.
Bro. Mike Macahilig provided musical accompaniment for the choir, while the emcees—Sisters Leonie Molina, Marlyn Kennedy, Millicent Avery, Yoli Reyes, Judy Sumampong, and Jo Bonto—guided us through the event. Technical support was handled by Sis Rubie Herrera, Beth Nunez, and their team, with voiceovers by Sis Elizabeth Kitney, who reminded us that it was also the Feast Day of Mary Help of Christians, Patron Saint of Australia. Sis Grace Huerto and her team took care of the hall decorations, and the entire awe-inspiring production was conceptualized by Sis Grace Jacinto.
The conference highlighted the exceptional talents, cooperation, and camaraderie of the NSW Handmaids of the Lord. It deepened my resolve to stay aware of global events, strengthen my relationship with God, and embrace the responsibility of caring for nature for future generations.
As a Handmaid, I’m also encouraged to help fulfill the CFCA mission of "5000 in 5" by reaching out to others and inviting them into the community. In this Great Jubilee Year 2025, I am committed to being a "Pilgrim of Hope," united with the Universal Church.
