May 2025 (Purify yourself, try to be as pure as Christ!)

Bible passages: 1 John 3:1-3

“See what love the Father has bestowed on us that we may be called the children of God. Yet so we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God’s children now; what we shall be has not yet been revealed. We know that when it is revealed we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. Everyone who has this hope based on him makes himself pure, as he is pure.”

Reflections:

In the first letter of St John, he discusses the meaning of being children of God, brothers and sisters to one another and how to live accordingly. He reminds us to share in God’s own life and love by devoting ourselves to loving one another as true brothers and sisters. He describes how we are to walk in true fellowship with God, actively loving our brothers and sisters in the faith.

St John also said that what we shall be ultimately has not yet been revealed, but when it is revealed we shall be like Jesus, for we shall see Him as He is. This is something that we should look forward to, to be like Jesus and see Him as He is.

Discussion Questions:

Do you understand the full meaning of being a child of God?

What areas in your life do you need to change to live as a true child of God; in your relationship with Him, the members of your family, brothers and sisters in our community and your neighbours?

Do you see Jesus in yourself, in others?

Let us pray:

Dear Lord, i pray that you renew my spirit and transform me from the inside out. Help me to see and focus on Your Kingdom and to live my life in the ways that honour You. Take my doubts, fears, and insecurities, and replace them with the assurance of Your love. Let Your love guide me through every trial and challenges i may face. Help me to live in the hope that I shall be like Your Son and that I will see Him as He is.
