July 2025 (New wines into new wineskins!)

Bible passages: Luke 5:37-38

“Likewise, no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins, and it will be spilled, and the skins will be ruined. Rather, new wine must be poured into fresh wineskins.”

Reflections:

What is this new wine? And what are the old wineskins?

The new wine is the new life of grace we have been blessed by God abundantly through His Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. The old wineskins are our old fallen nature. Jesus is telling us that if we wish to receive His grace and mercy in our lives we must allow Him to transform our old selves into new creations and embrace the new law of grace.

Discussion Questions:

Have you become a new creation? In what way?

Have you allowed your former self to die so that the new person can rise again?

What does it means to you to become a new creation in Christ?

What area in your life need to change for you to become a new creation in Christ so that the new wine of grace can be poured out into your life?

Let us pray:

Lord Jesus, please make a new wine out of me. Melt me, mould me, fill me and use me. I surrender my old self to Your power and presence and trust that You will transform me and make me a new wine. Help me to surrender joyfully to Your will and to trust You more and more every day.  You are making me new, help me to remain new and not to be an old wine again. Amen!
