Bible Passage: Psalm 119:160
Overview:
Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible. Based on Catechism of the Catholic Church, Psalm119 states; “The sum of your word is truth; and every one of your righteous ordinances endures forever. And now, O Lord God, you are God, and your words are true; this is why God’s promises always come true. God is Truth itself, whose word cannot deceive. This is why one can abandon oneself in full trust to the truth and faithfulness of his word in all things. The beginning of sin and of man’s fall was due to a lie of the tempter who induced doubt of God’s word, kindness and faithfulness”.
God’s truth in his wisdom, which commands the whole created order and governs the world. God, who alone made heaven and earth, can alone impart true knowledge of every created thing in relation to himself.
God is also truthful when he reveals himself – the teaching that comes from God is “true instruction”. When he sends his Son into the world it will be to “bear witness to the truth”. “We know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, to know him who is true”.
Reflections:
Meditate to His Wonders
To appreciate God’s truth, meditate on His wonderous deeds. God has demonstrated this wonderful work through the incarnation of Jesus, His virgin birth, His life, death, resurrection and ascension. This is the ultimate act of God’s Love to a sinful humanity. All our sins are forgiven, and salvation is guaranteed provided we continue to believe and trust in His love through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Trust in His Word
God’s word is always true yesterday, today and tomorrow. We are completely dependent on God’s mercy and grace. We must trust that God wants to save us and that He will give us the resources we need to cope with life’s challenges and to achieve our eternal destiny. The saints had a profound awareness of the Lord’s presence in their lives. According to St. Albert the Great, “The greater and more persistent your confidence in God, the more abundantly you will receive all that you ask.”
Obey His Commands
Most of us will ask why we encounter so many problems and trials in life, not only in our personal life but also in today’s society. The original divine plan of God is for all human beings to live in abundance, in peace and in joy. In our present society, God’s commandment and teaching is being challenged at every level. Thus, we live in a world of chaos, misery and hatred. Jesus Christ wants us to be with Him in his kingdom where there is joy and peace. As He promised, “Where I am, there too my servant will be.” (Jn 12:26). Keeping His commandments remains the most effective way to enter the kingdom of heaven and avoid eternal death. As written in the scriptures, “If you love me, keep my commandments.” (Jn 14:15)
Discussion Questions:
1. In your Christian journey, what specific scripture verses inspire you to live out your life? Share some experiences as a testimony of God’s love.
2. Which area of God’s teaching is being challenge today and provide a brief explanation how you can help as a member of CFCA community?
As a member/Leader of this community, what step(s)you will do to share God’s word to evangelise non-believers?
