SFCA Enchanted Garden

By Bong Ampon, SFCA Coordinator

As what Pope Francis said:

“We must restore hope to young people, help the old, be open to the future, and spread love. Be poor among the poor. We need to include the excluded and preach peace.”

From this calling, our young brothers and sisters from Singles for Christ Australia hosted a social event in order to raise fund in helping the poor.

The social event was called “Enchanted Garden” held on 10th December 2016 and was attended by more than a hundred donors from the members of Couples for Christ Australia and our members in Singles for Christ Australia and their friends.

The event was a success and we were able to raise funds of more than a thousand dollars enough for us to use for our Work with the Poor project.

The fund was donated to various charities and organisations that are in need of school supplies, groceries, sporting equipment and bunk beds for poor school children.

One of our major recipients is the Lumad School in Mindanao (Community Technical College of South-eastern Mindanao, Inc.) that was founded on October 24, 2013 and is engaged in providing free quality education to the poor children of indigenous and peasant communities in Mindanao.

Our donated fund was used in buying and making some of the 70 bunk beds for the school children who can now stay in the school instead of travelling long distances and hours from their home to the school and back.

The rest of our remaining funds were added to the funds of the Unit household of Brother Fred Songcuan from Couples for Christ Australia for their Work with the Poor Project.

Thru the help of Sister Evie Balisbisan, the funds were distributed to various charity works for the poor in Laguna:

  • School supplies and sporting goods for the school children of Siniloan Day Care Centre, Sergio Herrera Elementary School and Kabulusan National High School;
  • Visited the Haven for the Elderly, one of the homes for the aged and delivered grocery items for the residents of the facility;
  • Provided food for the children in the feeding program of one the barangays.

I believe that this is a reward that is worth having and this is a product of selfless giving not only from the members of Singles for Christ Australia but also from the whole community of Couples for Christ Australia.

May God Be Praised!
